Black Bear

Still lot of buffalo berries can be found and the bears continue to eat them as much as they can, daily putting on weight. This young black bear was bit nervous, probably his first summer along, was eating the berries. He would stop and look around, or watch around him as he ate. Most likely the berries will be around until frost brings them down, until then the buffet of buffalo berries will continue.

Red Fox

This red fox was searching for food, I kept my distance to take pictures. Before this summer it was long time ago when I saw and got pictures of a red fox, it was from great distance. Those were my only pictures of a red fox until this summer. Finally the luck has been on my side this summer, when it came to getting pictures of a fox. Now I hope I come across one in the winter with their full winter coat.

Elk

It was early in the morning when I was walking along  a path through a fog. I came across this waterway, I looked in both direction, but when I looked right I saw this bull elk standing in the water he was about to cross. He looked toward me and then straight ahead. There was enough clarity in the fog for him to stand out, I stayed put and took his pictures as he walked to the other side.

Common Loon

The Common Loon adults did everything they could but still no family this year. The nest could have been disturbed by other animals, forcing the adults off the eggs for too long. Predators were spotted near the nest few times. In the end no young, just the adults hanging out in the lake.

Grizzly

This grizzly bear like other bears is busy eating berries, shepherdia. She will keep eating them until she can't find them anymore or they fall off, but you can't keep eating 24/7, you do need a break every now and then. Here she takes a small break before she was back at eating shepherdia.

Mountain Goats

The older mountain goats made their way to the bottom, for the minerals. But the kids, about two week old were bit skittish to say the least, they were staying higher up the day I came across them, they were full of energy and very playful. Running around, butting heads and pushing each other off  prime spots. This playful behaviour will come in handy when they get older, when they will be threatening to use their horns, over prime spots for eating and for resting. But for now it's fun for them and for us watching.

Dark-eyed Junco

While hiking, I came across this nest belong to a pair of Dark-eyed Junco, it was near a trail. The begging gave the nest away, I took a quick picture while the adults were getting food for the very hungry mouths and then I kept walking.

Grizzly

This male grizzly is know as M136, but better know as "split-lip", because of the cut he has on the left side of his mouth from fight with another grizzly. He has been busy travelling through the valley eating berries. Only taking a rest until he is ready to eat more. Here he is taking a break, walking through the oxeye daisies.

Grizzly

I came across this large grizzly late in the day, travelling through the valley in solitude. He seemed to be on the move, watched him for a while. He did not stop, kept moving in his normal slow pace.

Bald Eagles

I had come across one of the Bald Eagle enjoying a dead red squirrel for breakfast while the ravens and magpies watched on. Afterward it took to the air, I was thinking it was flying away, but instead it was joined my its mate and both decided to perch on a dead tree not far from me. I was happy getting pictures of one Bald Eagle that morning, but here was my opportunity to get two in a image. I took my time locating a clear view of both eagles and then with the beautiful sky as the background grabbed several images. I then back tracked and watched them for a while to see if they would take to the air. They did not, I left them there, both enjoying the morning sun.

Sunshine Meadows

I was visiting the Sunshine Meadows, the weather was great and the views even more so. The flowers are out and more coming up, will be helped by the bright weather the next several days. Being above 2200 meters in elevation, there is not a bad view in any direction.

Elk

I spotted this young male elk early in the morning, he and an older male were hanging out, eating grass. Their winter coat is gone and their antlers are coming along nicely.

Grizzly

This female grizzly sitting next to a shrub, eating buffaloberries, one of the best year for the berries in a long time. The bears will be taking advantage of the crop, gaining weight, which will help them get through winter. For the female who have mated this year, the good crop will increase their chance of having cubs in January. Those who gain lot of weight, they have a better change of having two or three cubs.

Wood Lily

I was back at it again looking at the wood lilies, along the road in the ditch. Trying to figure out how I was going to take pictures of them this summer, I walked back and forth taking pictures from different angles of different lilies. At the same time I was searching for one or two of the rare yellow ones, no luck. I finally decided I wanted the Sun to be in the picture, I would focus on the flower and not the Sun, better for my eyes. I was on all four, my behind sticking toward the sky and face on the ground to get the images. I'm sure I had the better view then those seeing my picture taking pose that morning.

Red Fox

There are some animals harder to keep off the road and even harder to avoid hitting, like a ground squirrel. I came across the remains of one in the morning, just off the road. But it did not go to waste, same day toward the end I came across this fox carrying the remains of the columbian ground squirrel away to be consumed.

Takakkaw Falls

I was visiting Yoho Valley in Yoho NP, a beautiful place anytime of the year. I was exploring the valley early in the morning, rain had just stopped and the low clouds were still lingering . No visit to the valley would be complete without a visit to see the Takakkaw Falls.
