Mount Rundle

My favourite season winter is here, open water is disappearing and blanket of snow is covering the ground. My fingers and toes get cold like everyone else's. I just put on my warm layers and make the most of it. I can't control when the winter comes and goes, just how much fun I can have while its here.

With shorter days it time to get out to take night pictures after day light has passed. Few days back on a cool night  I made my way to the Vermilion Lakes to see what the sky loked like. Just enough clouds in the sky to add to the picture and the light from the Banff lit up Mount Rundle and some of the clouds.

The clouds were moving pretty fast through the sky, I was not sure if they wuld be in right spot when the sun would light them up. Crossed my fingers, located a spot and waited. I did not have to wait long before finding out it was going to work out, got an another beautiful picture from Vermilion Lakes.

It had been a while since I last taken a sunrise picture at the Vermilion Lakes. But when I was back there few weeks back on a cool morning, it took mere seconds to become comfortable with the surroundings. It's a place I'm very much familiar with and it did not take long for me to find the spot I wanted to take pictures from that morning. While others were driving around, I was waiting for the clouds to light up. It did not take long before I was witnessing another beautiful sunrise at the lakes.

Its always great to start the morning watching a sunrise and when possible taking pictures of it. I will never stop enjoying watching a mountain for that matter the whole scene front of me starts to change as the sun rises. The rays of light reach the sky, the clouds and then the mountains. With each step the view becomes more and more beautiful. A good way to start any day.

This picture was taken ten days ago, it was a beautiful morning, most of the Two Jack Lake was still covered by ice. Mount Rundle was lit up by the morning light and the moon still in the sky, it was hard to pass the picture.

Just few weeks ago Two Jack Lake was starting to open up, all that stopped when it got cold again. Now its warm again and the lake is opening up again. Spring is taking its time this year, either way there are good opportunities to take pictures of the sunrises.

The sun was setting and the sky was full of cirrus clouds. I needed to take care of few things before I could make my way to the Vermilion Lakes to take pictures of the sunset. The sunlight was off the mountains and was just starting to light up the clouds when I arrived at the lakes. Nature provided plenty of time for me to enjoy the colours and to take pictures.

For few days we were middle of a snow storm, lots of snow and heavy winds were the common theme. But the storm did pass and the sky did open up. Took the picture during that time. Next day the snow started to melt as we went from winter to spring like weather.

Middle of the night, all bundle up and standing next to open water. Could just make out the northern lights to my right and the town light coming up front of me. The northern lights were not going to spread any further, so I just went about playing with the camera's setting and kept taking pictures. Playing with the sensitivity of the sensor and taking exposures 10 to 20 seconds long. When happy with the results, it was time to head for a warm bed.
