Bears are waking up from their deep sleep, before May is over all should be up and exploring the valley bottom before starting to move higher up as we get into warmer weather. This big guy, M122, has been up for a while. Being in his early twenties, he’s been around the mountains for a while, he always seems to be the first one up and this year was no different. The day I saw him, he was making his way through the deep snow pack that looked like would be still here when summer arrived. Heavy snow was falling middle of a spring day. He was in a small section of trees, waiting, as snow fell on top of him. There was a feeling of calm watching him looking down onto the snow. Any time I look at the image, I find it relaxing as I wonder what was going through his head as sat on top of the snow that beautiful winter like day.
