During the spring, summer and even in the fall, it’s not all about the grand landscapes and the megafauna. There are small birds, flowers and insects to take pictures of. During the winter I do tend to focus more on the landscapes and I’m always alert if I come across a moose, elk and other members of the deer family. The odd time I see the wolves, more frequently the coyotes and with some effort get a few good pictures of the birds that call the mountains their home during the winter. But on the snow, I enjoy looking at snowflakes and those frost flowers as I like to call them. When the conditions are right, hoarfrost brings a whole new beauty to the landscape. On trees, shrubs, and other vegetation sticking above the snow, and as well on the snow and ice. Sometimes it lasts for a few hours in the morning, other times for days. All depends on the temperature, wind and I am knocking it off as I walk by. Nature is always there to remind us that beauty is everywhere. Sometimes on a cold morning you have to get down on your knees or butt on the snow to enjoy it.
