Common Merganser

I was walking along the Bow River, when I reached a bay where a female Common Merganser was looking for food. I kept walking to go get the picture I was looking for, on my return the merganser was still in the same area. Got my camera out and started to take its picture and then waited to see what it would do next. Weather it was me or it just decided to move on, I missed the moment when it got out o the water. I quickly got the camera on it and got picture of it flying.

Common Mergansers

Few days back we were out birding in the snow. Even with snow falling, there was enough light coming through to take pictures. We came across these two Common Mergansers, resting on a log. I slowly moved closer and kept taking pictures with the snow falling. It seems warm weather  is taking its time coming through for these birds.

Common Mergansers

These two Common Mergansers spent few weeks on the Bow River near the town of Banff. The day I took this picture, it was snowing but there was enough light for me to try taking pictures. By now they were not too afraid of people walking along the river, which made it easier to get a better picture. Just as I was taking pictures, the male started to flap its wings, making the picture that much more interesting.

Common Merganser

It's that time of the year when its great to go out and see birds. Everyday there are more birds to spot and listen to. The Common Merganser is one of many birds I look forward to seeing and taking pictures of. This large duck looks great surround by the beautiful colour of the Bow River. I spotted this male while walking on the trail next to the river, when it decided I was not safe enough to hang out with. While running across the water to catch air,I quickly grabbed few pictures.
