It's rare I'm out, away, hour from home at the end of the day. Standing next to the Bow Lake, waiting for the sun to set. Hoping the sky would lit up little and the water would go calm. I got little of both, giving me the picture.
Sunset
It's never just about the picture, I get out to enjoy nature and occasionally I come back with an interesting image. When I was out last month, I just wanted to get out and explore the trails, after the hike I was driving by a small lake next to the road, noticed the water was calm and about half an hour away from a possible bright sunset. So I found a place away from the road, sat down on a rock and took in the surroundings. I could hear few birds on the opposite side of the lake and near me insects were busy on ground and on the water. Time quickly passed, when I noticed a little bit of red in the clouds. Few minutes later the clouds were on fire. For about ten minutes I got to watch a beautiful sunset and take pictures along the way. A good ending to the day.

Floe Lake
There are lot of great places in the Rocky Mountains to see the beautiful larch trees in their golden fall colours. This year I visited the beautiful Floe Lake in Kootenay National Park. A few hour hike to the lake, on one side the towering limestone cliffs and on the other surrounded by the larch forest and at this time in their fall colours. Many hikes offer a reward at the end of the trip, in this case any of the elements that make up the landscape would be a great reward. Put the items together, there is no second.

Herbert Lake
Daylight was coming to an end when I had arrived to the shores of Herbert Lake. The water calmed down and the sky and the land started to reflect off the water. The sky was crazy, filled with clouds, in the distance on the slopes of the mountains the golden yellow larches could be seen and as well the fall colours were present along the shores of the lake. The lake sits next to a road, I looked ahead at the beautiful view, forgetting the vehicles passing just meters from me.

Upper Waterfowl Lake
I have spent my share of time on the either side of the Upper Waterfowl Lake, exploring the trails to Cirque and Chephren Lakes, as well walking up and down Mistaya River. It's a beautiful area and there is always something to find and come across. I like to get out there before the sunrise, no sound from the road making its way to the lake, just the calls of the various waterfowls I have come across over the years. And what better way to start the day then to watch the towering peaks front of me light up with the first light of the day.

Lake Louise
I like to add my black and white image of Lake Louise to the thousands that came before it. Spring has spread through out the mountains, I though I better get this winter image out before its was too late. I got there later part of a morning, people were skating, cross country skiing, ice climbing, hiking, snowman building, and most of all taking pictures. As soon as I arrived to the shores of the lake, I could see the picture I wanted and it was going to be in black and white. Yes, those are people in the picture, a rarity in my images. I tried to get them out of the picture, but as soon as I got one out, another would walk in. In the end I decided to leave them in, after all some of my friends are people.

Lake Minnewanka
Still lot of ice on and as well on the shores of Lake Minnewanka. I was out there few days ago taking pictures of the sunrise with big chunk of ice front of me. The way the large ice pieces were pilled on top of each other, they seem to be mirroring the mountains in the background.

Hector Lake
It seem like a distance memory when it looked like winter wonderland in the Canadian Rockies, when everything was covered with snow. The attached picture was taken last month of the frozen Hector Lake in the distance. all covered with snow, surrounded by peaks and forest. Soon after the picture was taken, the temperatures went up, for the lows and the highs. Most of the snow has gone from the trees, the mountains are little more exposed and for the lake, it still has ice and snow but if this weather pattern continues, the water might be opening earlier than normal. Time will tell, for now I have the pictures to remind me what winter looked like at the start of this season.

Lake Minnewanka
I had a little hike walking along Lake Minnewanka's shore, came across broken up ice. After exploring it for a while I found a place to take a picture on a warm February afternoon. In this case it was the happy winter blues.

Moraine Lake
Weather more then anything else plays a big role how a picture will turn out, and its more then just about the light. We all woke up to fallen snow, not only on the peaks but it also made its way to the ground.. As well the valley was filled with low clouds, photography was going to be a challenge but at the same time an opportunity to get interesting pictures. I had couple of places in mind, one of those was Moraine Lake, photos of which have been taken by photographers from around the world. The area has raw beauty second to none, with fresh snow, low clouds and open water, it was hard not to get a good picture. Soon on my arrival, I knew the picture I wanted, afterwards I watched others capturing their moments.

Herbert Lake
Fall colours can be spotted near the ground as we wait for the larches to change their needles into the beautiful golden colours. I was passing by Herbert Lake where a broken up storm was passing through. Adding the fall colours to the foreground made the picture for me.

Peyto Lake
For me its hard to sleep in, just wondering what I might be missing gets me up and gets me outside. So it always feels better just to get out there, and since I like taking pictures of everything that falls under nature, I rarely come home empty handed and always come back feeling better. It feels great just walking in the woods going to work and coming back from work, let along when taking picture of Northern Lights during the night and then deciding to stay out there to catch the sunrise at one of the most beautiful place in the world. That`s the effect of nature.

Bow Lake
The morning started with a clear sky, but soon the clouds were moving in. The timing was on my side, the water of Bow Lake was still relatively calm as the clouds starting adding drama in the sky. I grabbed the picture I wanted and half an hour later overcast weather moved in.

Northern Lights over Peyto Lake
It was a good thing I had the following day off, because the night was short the northern lights did not become visible until well after mid-night and few hours later dawn was on its way. But before that took place, many of us got to see a beautiful light show in the sky, thanks to the Northern lights. One of the brightest moment was seeing a very bright shooting star, did not get a picture of it, but something my brain will never let me forget. Once I was finish shooting the lights, I though I get an hour of rest before getting pictures of the sunrise. I was too excited to get any rest, before I knew it I was looking for a different spot to take pictures of the sunrise around Peyto Lake. The sunrise was great as well, picture of that a another time.

Lake Minnewanka
We're in the rainbow season again. Last week a broken storm was passing through the valley. The rain was falling to the left of me and the sunlight was coming from the right. All helping to produce a rainbow back of Lake Minnewanka.

Bow Lake
The Bow Lake should be frozen over with the cold temperatures this week. But couple of weeks ago the water was still open. With the cold weather I had the whole area to myself as I explored the shores and took pictures.

Bow Lake
Fresh snow lay on the mountains from the night before, low clouds were passing through and the water of Bow Lake was still. Producing a beautiful morning.

Peyto Lake
Friends and I headed to 93 North, hoping to see something along the way and perhaps watch the sunset. There was no sighting of wildlife, but we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset at Peyto Lake.

Moraine Lake
Few weeks back I was at Moraine Lake, spending a cool morning taking pictures of the sunrise. I was hoping for clouds to add drama to the sky, that did not happen, but the water was calm. With the calm water, all I had to do was frame the pictures as the morning light started hitting the peaks. The lake makes it so easy to get a good picture.

Petyo Lake
For few days winter arrives in the Canadian Rockies. Friends and I were visiting Jasper and on our way back to Banff, we stopped by Petyo Lake to take sunset pictures. It was winter wonderland.
