If one was waiting for a sunny day to hike in this fall, not much hiking would get done. I stopped listening to weather forecaster long time ago, for only so long I could listen to a person in the morning telling me if the temperature and the other elements of weather was just not right it was not a good day. I don't get many days to hike, there's no way I'm going to let a person decide what type of day I will have outdoors. I look up the weather in the morning to help me decide what to wear and then head out to have a great day. The day this picture was taken, we headed out to make the most of the day after snow had fallen and more was on the way and the clouds blanketed most of the mountains. We spend the morning exploring the mountains and got to enjoy great views.
Moraine Lake Area
After dinner I made my way to Moraine Lake area , with the hope of getting a sunset picture form the shore of the lake. But the wind changed that, the water was just not calm enough for a reflective water surface. I was about a km away as I was making my way to the lake, the scenery looked not too bad for a picture. So after reaching the lake I decided to head back to that location and that's where i got this picture from.
Moraine Lake
Weather more then anything else plays a big role how a picture will turn out, and its more then just about the light. We all woke up to fallen snow, not only on the peaks but it also made its way to the ground.. As well the valley was filled with low clouds, photography was going to be a challenge but at the same time an opportunity to get interesting pictures. I had couple of places in mind, one of those was Moraine Lake, photos of which have been taken by photographers from around the world. The area has raw beauty second to none, with fresh snow, low clouds and open water, it was hard not to get a good picture. Soon on my arrival, I knew the picture I wanted, afterwards I watched others capturing their moments.

Moraine Lake
Few weeks back I was at Moraine Lake, spending a cool morning taking pictures of the sunrise. I was hoping for clouds to add drama to the sky, that did not happen, but the water was calm. With the calm water, all I had to do was frame the pictures as the morning light started hitting the peaks. The lake makes it so easy to get a good picture.

Moraine Lake
A stone landmark or cairn called inuksuk organically built by people of the Arctic region like the Inuit, is used for navigation, marker for travel routes and for various other reasons. A similar structure that represent a human figure, is called an inunnguaq, which is better know among the non-Inuit. One was built along the shore of Moraine Lake, spotted as I looked for a place to take a picture.
Lake Louise
There I was standing on the shores of the Lake Louise, looking at the beautiful colour of the water, the magnificent peaks around it, some covered with glaciers. Throw in the mountain blue sky and just enough clouds to add drama to it. It was hard not to get a good picture of the lake. I think Lake Louise is one of those places in the world where if you can't get a good picture, its time to hand in your camera and go buy a post
card.

Moraine Lake
It was late in the day standing next to Moraine Lake, waiting for the sun to set. The clouds did not light up as I hoped, but the calm water provided a different opportunity. A opportunity to get a differnt angle of the lake and of some of the ten peaks.

Moraine Lake
My Canada Day started this last Wednesday, when I visited Moraine Lake to capture the sunrise. It was windy and did not look like the light was going to come through the heavy clouds. When I saw a spot of light on one of the peaks around the lake, I got out of my car and started to head where I wanted to capture the image. I'm trying to stay away from where most of the pictures taken of this lake area. I got the images I wanted as the light started to come through as a Wilson Warbler kept me company. The water level was still below normal for the lake, gave me a chance to walk on area that's normally under water. Spent the morning exploring, saw a marmot and a pika on land and Spotted Sandpiper who was enjoying the lake as well. Was entertained by two Harlequin Ducks for an hour, taking their pictures as they dived for food. The time at the lake ended taking pictures of Barn Swallows. Morning well spent, happy birthday Canada.
