Got to enjoy the Takakkaw Falls as the rain stopped for a short while and the low clouds moved through the Yoho Valley in Yoho National Park.
Johnston Canyon
I went to the Johnston Canyon to make observations for something else, but found some time to take 6 to 8 seconds exposures holding the camera over the hand rails.
Johnston Canyon
As the temperature rises, snow an ice has started to change to water, but last week there was still lot of snow and ice to enjoy at the Lower Falls in the Johnston Canyon.
Johnston Canyon
This morning before the Sun rose I hiked into Johnston Canyon for a hike and to take pictures of the Upper and Lower Falls. I started with the Upper Falls, the ice was amazing to look at, did just that before I started to pick the spot where I wanted to take pictures. Just as I was making my way to the top to take the posted picture, ice climbers were moving in. After taking pictures from the top of Upper Falls, I then headed back to the Lower Falls.
Giant Steps
Winter has arrived to the Canadian Rockies, bringing snow and colder temperatures. It was just few weeks ago we were having a great fall hiking season. One of the highlight from this fall was the Paradise Valley hike. With an early start, the temperature was close to freezing, moving fast kept the body nice and warm. The goal was to make it to the Giant Steps before the sun reached bottom of the valley, I wanted to explore the steps and take long exposure images, direct sunlight on the water would have made things little more challenging. With some side exploring, it ended up being a 25k day. To and back from the steps, the views were amazing, the snow capped peaks, juvenile Common Goldeneyes in the lake, the fall colours, pikas getting ready for the winter ..... you get the idea. In the end I got the pictures and another chance at exploring the mountains my favourite way, on my two feet.
Johnston Canyon
I paid a visit to the Johnston Canyon for a walk and to check on few things. It was evening, lot less crowded then middle of the day. These day you have to go there first thing in the morning, end of the day or during cold weather to find the popular Johnston Canyon quite. Before I left, I took few long exposures at the lower water falls.
Sunwapta Falls
Water falls attract lot of people and I'm one of them. I like to watch them and as well figure out how I will be taking their picture. For this Sunwapta Falls, a place I have to travel for few hours to get to, I took the picture in a similar way as the last time. I think I have to spend little more time to get different looks. Hopefully the next time I'm out there.
Johnston Canyon Lower Falls
Few times a year I like to walk through the Johnston Canyon. Being one of the more popular hike year around, I tend to hike it before anyone else shows up. Having the place to myself for a short while, I get to take pictures without getting me or my equipment in anyones way. Seeing the narrow canyon during different seasons, one gets to see the different faces of the place. When the snow starts to melt during the warm days in the spring, the power of the water is amazing. And during the cold winter days , the beauty created with water and ice by nature is worth seeing even during a very cold morning.

Takakkaw Falls
I was visiting Yoho Valley in Yoho NP, a beautiful place anytime of the year. I was exploring the valley early in the morning, rain had just stopped and the low clouds were still lingering . No visit to the valley would be complete without a visit to see the Takakkaw Falls.
Until next moment,

Sunwapta Falls
A picture from the day I was out taking pictures of the various falls. I got to Sunwapta Falls later then I hoped, but the dark overcast sky helped out with long exposures. I'm looking forward to getting out there again.
Until next moment,
