have been saving this picture for a while, it was my first sighting this season of the goslings, there were two sets of family hanging out near each other. I stayed in the middle and kept taking pictures as opportunities presented themselves. It was during the morning and the sun was quickly rising, couple of town staff cleaning up the area were the only other people in the area. We all decided it was a good way to start the day, seeing little balls of golden yellow running around their parents. I had to make minor adjustment to my location, I wanted the sunlight to be hitting them from the back, also kept making minor adjustments to the camera setting to get some details in the goslings. After spending about twenty minutes, I was happy with what I got and continued my bird walk.

New life is out, these two about a week old were spotted eating and moving with their parents , who were right behind them. With waterfowls the young have to be able to move soon after the force their way out of the nest. Dealing with the real world right away, parents will do their best to provide safety from the elements and predators.
Canada Geese
The birds have been migrating back for a while, but now its full on. It seems everyday another bird is heard calling out, on the water, in the forest and in the sky. Even if you are not a birder, its great to hear all those calls. Every chance I get I'm out there, looking for those who nest in the park and those who are just passing by. The Banff Community Birdwalk kicks of tomorrow, let the fun begin.

I just had to get into the right position, the goose gave me heads up with all the noise it was making as it got near. I just did not know if it was going to fly by or land in the water near me, as soon as I spotted it I set my camera on it. It decided to land in the water front of me, providing me with few images. The goose continue to call out as I moved on to the next photo opportunity.

The Canada Geese are back in the mountains, now they wait for snow and ice to disappear so they can spread out, build a nest and start a family.

These golden goslings guarded by their parents were moving through the fast moving water. It was a partially cloudy morning and I had front of me three different families of geese, one had two goslings, another five and this one six. I was moving my camera from one to another, but I stayed with this family when they started to move through the rays of sunlight. As soon as the six goslings lit up under the light, they had my full attention.

Spotted these little guys yesterday morning. With the sun light coming from the left side and dew on the ground, everything looked golden. The parents were to the side, which made it easier to isolate these three goslings. Rest was straight forward.

I saw this during a morning, the mothr goose keeping her goslings warm. When I saw them from a distance I thought there were just two geese by the river, but as I got closer I started to see the the right wing extended outward. And when I got a look from the back, I saw the reason. All togeather there where six goslings, staying warm.

I was at Two Jack Lake to take a pictures of the sunrise, there were two geese in the area, one in and one out of water. Just as I was about to take the pictures, the goose on the land walks into the lake, causing ripples. But after few minutes it found a position it liked and stop moving. They stayed still, just occasionally staring at me while I took the pictures.

The geese are everywhere in the Bow Valley, even when we can't see them or are near them, they can be heard. Other birds are making their way back in to valley as well but not as vocal as the Canada Geese.

Couple of goslings were being aggressive with each other, just as quickly they started fighting they stopped.

The two geese were in the shade and the back ground in the setting sunlight. I panned the camera and starting taking their pictures, getting this blurred but art like picture.

There are signs spring is on its way. Yesterday I saw several Robins, heard the sound of a Varied Thrush and was made aware a grizzly has awaken and is looking for food. But with nature it's never that simple, in one day it does not go from cold to warm, it takes time. This goose who has recently returned from the South, it will face many days of cold as it had to yesterday with the coming snow storm, before it's surrounded by spring.

It won't be spring without these guys and they let you know when they are around. These two were about to land but another pair below would not let them, so they had to make a quick turn through the trees and find a place of their own.
