Slowly the remaining wildflowers are moving aside as we inch closer toward fall. We're still a few weeks away from the golden colour of larch trees, but some of the shrubs are already showing fall colours. One of the wildflower still showing its colour is the paintbrush.
Red Paintbrush
Making an effort to spend more time looking at and taking pictures of wild flowers. Paintbrushes are out and can be seen at many areas in the mountains and more to come as weather gets warmer. Right now this flower is bringing colour to the floor of the valley and then will be found in the meadows at higher elevations.
Red Paintbrush
One of the more abundance flowers found in the mountains, is the paintbrush, very hard not to see one during an outing. And for me very hard to pass them without taking their pictures. In this case it was in the morning, the sun was shining on everything behind the flower, so I got low on the ground to get the picture with a bright and a clear background.

Red Paintbrush
Always happy to take pictures of flowers, and my favourite way is to be at eye level with the flower of the plants and find a complementary background. Then I snap away.

The paintbrushes are starting to show their colours in the mountains. Finding them in the valley and as warm weather contuines, they will be found higher up in the meadows. This one was spotted while visiting north part of Banff NP.

When I'm trying to take pictures of flowers, I'll try to get myself to eye level with the flowers before taking the picture. As well looking for space behind the flowers and the background, trying to make the flowers stand out. Its great when I spot flowers on a side of a slope, easier for me to look up and take the picture. Otherwise I'll lay on the ground and get the picture I want. Not a big deal when it its by or near a trail, away from the general public. To get the attached picture, I was laying down on the side of the road in a ditch. Safe from the vehicles that on occasion went by, but not form curious eyes. Caused a one vehicle photographer jam, when a driver stopped to make sure all was good. A puzzled look came over his face, when I told him I was just taking pictures of flowers. Maybe I should have shown him a picture.
