Moose

It was a fun morning taking pictures. Just had finished taking pictures of the moon setting before deciding to  find the two moose in the area. Being middle of winter, the light was great even though it was few hours after sunrise. This adult moose decided to take several quick steps through the snow, looking very powerful. The sun light was low, enough to keep the antlers shadow away from the eyes. It was a great morning taking pictures of the moose. But even more important,  its was great to see this and the other moose in the park.

Moon over Mount Pilot

For few days before I got this picture, I was trying to capture the image with the moon setting over the mountains. But the light level difference on the moon compared to that on the mountains was not close enough to get a good picture. Well on day three it all came togeather, getting the picture just before the moon went behind Mount Pilot.

Grey Wolf

It was an another boring morning in the mountains, all those peaks covered with that ever so boring white snow. Sun rising and sending that blinding light toward my eyes off the mountains. Just when I though it could not get any worse, I come across wolves. I could not go back in the opposite direction, it would take too long to reach my destination. So I waited for them to go across, they took their time, prolonging my boredom. I decided to grab a few pictures to kill time, next time, I'm just sleeping in.

American Dipper

Just had finished taking pictures of a sunset, it was then time to find the American Dipper I was hearing. I started to walk along the river I was standing next to. Just a section of the river had open water, within few mintues I was standing about twenty meters from the dipper. It was diving into the water to look for food, when it would come out of the water, I would take its pictures

Moose

It was a cool sunny morning, watching the two moose eating away. For most of the time they were in the shade, but before they started to move away they came out into the direct light. It was only for few minutes and  that's all I needed to get some good pictures.

Open Water

One of the great joy of photography is, it makes you explore around the corner. You want to go around the corner and see if there is a better picture waiting. Sometime there isn't, but what keeps you going around the next corner again and again, is remembering all the times when there was a better picture.

Castle Mountain

If you are anywhere near Castle Mtn when the sun is setting, you can't help but enjoy the view from the Bow River, and if you have a camera in hand, well you have to take a picture. There was another photographer taking in the the view and grabing few pictures. I said "hello" and went about getting few memories as well.

Elk

The elk was slowly walking toward me through the falling snow, only stopping to eat the dried up grass. He was relaxed, not concerned about me, just giving me a look between bites. The challenge was trying to focus on the elk through the falling snow, the elk stayed in one area long enough for me to manually focus the lens to grab few pictures. He moved on and I as well, losing sight of each other in the snowfall.

Mount Rundle

A mountain that keeps on giving, this pictures was taken few weeks back before the ice got covered by snow. Did not think much was going to happen, it was a very cloudy windy morning. But I was well rewarded, with the light sneaking through and doing its morning magic.

Mount Rundle

Well, this talk about the "world coming to an end" tomorrow has me concerned. So I thought I better send out the "moment" today, just in case. If the world is ending, I'm going to do it my way, go home and start eating all of my chocolate. Death by chocolate, now that's way to go!

Until next moment.

Grey Wolf

Every time I see wildlife its a special moment. A friend and I were chatting when two wolves came out of the forest. One walked past us very determined, but this one waited and stared for few seconds in the heavy falling snow. Enough time for me to get few images and a wonderful memory.

Mount Rundle

Well I was at one of my favorite place to take landscape picture from, the Vermilion Lakes. After I got back from the other side of the frozen lake to take picture of elk, it was time to get the picture of Rundle before the sunlight moved on.

Golden Eagle

Each year is different then the last and all I can do is do my part by getting out and being ready for anything. Over a month a go I got to take pictures of a bird that I have not been able to get close to before, a Golden Eagle. I was doing what I like most, exploring the valley to see what I'll come across and if lucky something to take pictures of. To my amazement I came across two juvenile Golden Eagles, one was too far perched on a tree but this one was sitting on top of a dead tree close to the ground. From behind a tree I got to watch this beautiful bird and take all the pictures I could ask for that day. They are not often found near the bottom of the valley, but they were passing through and our paths intersected that day.

Boom Mountain

Could not pass this view without taking a picture. Was driving when I looked to my right and saw the mountains in the distance under the morning light. Made a quick stop on the side of the road, changed my lens and took the picture. Then off I went to my destination.

Northern Lights

Life is full of challenges, and some times we create our own to become better at what we do. Several months ago I decided I wanted to learn to take pictures of northern lights. First part of the challenge was to gather information to know when the lights might be taking place, internet helped with that. Second, find a place that will make for a good composition, lot to choose from in Banff. Third, the hardest part, play with the camera setting to get  what you want. Here's a picture I took few weeks back, the journey continues.
