I was taking pictures of birds or trying to, when I came across these beautiful willow flowers. Took their pictures and went back at tracking birds.

The mountains are full of surprises, I always like to take the long way from A to B, improving my chances of seeing something special. Living a life that's moving too fast, it's always good to step in the natural world. Where it's simple, the slower you move threw it, the more it will show you.

Yesterday morning I had a quick walk on a nearby trail before heading for work. Along the trail were small pools of water and in one of those pool were a pair of Green-winged Teals. I thought, they would fly away as soon as I got close to them. I walked slowly, stoping to take a picture before moving closer. But I was suprised when they stayed put as I watched and took photos just mere meters away. There was just enough light coming through the clouds to get few good pictures.

I took this picture few weeks back when light snow fall was still common, not that we can't get snow now. Living in the Canadian Rockies, we can enjoy falling snow anytime of the year. It's fun watching birds fly by, particularly when its at eye level. Here we're looking at 1/1500 of second in the life of these five Common Goldeneyes. When ever I look at this picture, I think about how they can make quick decision flying through air. Nature is amazing.

The Boreal Chickadee was spotted on the ground in the middle of the forest. While taking few pictures, it moved away from me, I took few steps toward it.Then it got behind a small spruce tree, I waited. It started moving up the tree, and I kept taking its pictures. When it got front of the tree with sunlight on it , I grabbed the picture

Never can get enough of seeing and photographing Bald Eagles. This one was spotted perched on a tree next to a river, if it wasnt for its white head, I would have missed it. I find in the mountains they like to have large personal space, so when this one was only about 40 meteres away, I did not waste any time.

Middle of a small forest of spruce trees, were rays of light streaking through, highlighting parts of trees and ground. One ray of light was show casing a Barred Owl perched half way up a tree. It was calling out and in the distance its mate was calling back. After a short while the mate landed on a nearby tree, I in the middle watched both of them. There would be long pauses between calls, but it was worth waiting for the beautiful sounds middle of the forest. After a while I left with memories and few good pictures.

Warm weather is here and the insects are out, including the butterflies. While out looking for birds to photography, came across this Anglewing Butterfly. Taking in the warmth of the sun while resting on pussy willow. I moved just to my right to get the smooth green background.

This coyote came out of the shrubs, walked over to where few geese and a rare American Avocet were hanging out. The Canada Geese backed away but the lone avocet held its position and called out. The coyote moved on and found a place to rest and soon after stretched and started to look for food. After about 15 minutes it heard the sound its was listening for, the sound of a vole moving under the vegetation. The coyote took to the air to reduce the chance of being heard by its prey and was well rewarded with one juicy vole.

These two Common Mergansers spent few weeks on the Bow River near the town of Banff. The day I took this picture, it was snowing but there was enough light for me to try taking pictures. By now they were not too afraid of people walking along the river, which made it easier to get a better picture. Just as I was taking pictures, the male started to flap its wings, making the picture that much more interesting.

Almost everything was ready for this picture, was just waiting for the elk on the right to look back toward me. But it was not meant to be, its hard to get wildlife to follow instructions. So I took what was offered and moved on.

Was watching the tree with blackbirds and statlings, waiting for them to take off to forage on the ground. Kept my lens pointed at them, not wanting to miss this shot. They did not disappoint, only had to wait few minutes.

White-tailed deer are a nervous bunch, always ready to run on a slightest movement. But this time I was in my car and they were calm, well almost. You can see from the photo, that two of them are focused on me, making sure it's safe before continuing their grazing.

There is always method to my madness. I was standing on the side of the river with the falling snow being blown all around me. Looking up and down the river for birds coming in my direction, not on water but in air, flying above the river. The faster I saw the birds, the faster I could track them with my camera and start taking their pictures I wanted. And when it all comes together, you get to see and get a picture of something special.
