Osprey

We're not too far off when both parent will be catching food for the three chicks. For now one adult stays back to look after the youngs, whiile the other goes fishing. All three chicks look about the same size and as well looking healthy. Which means fishing is good and all three have a chance to fledge later this summer.

Mountain Goat

This two year old mountain goat seems to be planing out its descent before heading downward, much like a skier or boarder does  from top of a race course. I go through similar process when a box of chocolates is front me, deciding which chocolate will be consumed first and which last.

Moose

A year old moose making its way into the forest, keeping one eye and ear toward me. I have not seen many moose this year, so it was a nice treat to see this one.

Brown-eyed Susan

I always enjoy taking pictures of flowers, I know they will stay in one area and I can move around them to get the picture I want. As well for this bown-eyed susan, I was on my knees to get the soft green backround and to get the colour from the other flowers in the area.

Northern Saw-whet Owl

Many, many weeks ago, at a place not too far away, I got to test my Jedi mind trick I had learned while watching Star Wars movies. I was waiting near a hole in a tree where Northern Saw-whet Owl was residing, a nocturnal bird that had kept me waiting many hours for its appearance. Just before all hope was lost, a red squirrel made an appearance bottom of the tree. Using my Jedi mind trick powers, I got it to climb up the tree toward the nest, it not only went up but to my surprise the squirrel and the owl starred at each other for few seconds, when the owl made an appearance. Not enough time for me to back up and get the whole squirrel in the  image and to compensate for the bright light on the right.  I blame the dark force.

Marble Canyon

Amar

Every year during the snowmelt, I try make it to Marble Canyon to watch the falls and to take few pictures. I was joined by a friend, as we headed for the canyon in Kootenay NP dark clouds were gathering. Conditions were perfect for long exposures, water in full force, low light and background music provided by dippers. Got the pictures just in time, clouds opened up soon after the car left the parking lot.

Mountain Goat

This one year old with two older mountain goats were hanging out near the bottom of the valley. Looking for important minerals to digest and eating plants as well. It was  nice treat see them up close, since I have been watching them from a distance for several months.

Low Clouds

Low clouds were passing through the Yoho Valley in Yoho NP. Its  a beautiful place to visit, but that morning the low clouds made it that much more special. I stopped at few spots to take pictures, including taking pictures of the trees with the clouds passing through them.

Great Blue Heron

It was the morning and I was watching this heron trying to catch breakfast, the hard part was trying to get in it in focus. It kept moving among the weed, until it was close to catching the fish. When the fish was caught, it took few seconds to get int in focus and was able to grap this picture. The heron quickly swallowed the fish and moved on.

Common Yellowthroat

Picture like this is hard to plan for, a bird about to catch a fly. I was taking pictures of this Common Yellowthroat as it moved from shrub to shrub, giving me second or two to take its picture. In this case I was taking pictures as it was perched, it took to the air. It was still in my camera's view as I was clicking away, got the picture just as its about to catch the fly in the air.

Cooper's Hawk

Just as I arrived to the open field on a cold rainy morning, a friend pointed out the Cooper's Hawk perched on a dead tree middle of the field. I quickly parked the car and got close as possible to take the picture. The hawk was in no hurry to take off, it stayed put and looked over the field for some time before deciding to leave.

Moon over Goat's Eye Mountain

I was headed to Sunshine's parking lot, when I looked toward my left and up, I saw the moon rising. I wanted to take a picture of it, it was just a matter of composition. When I came by Goat's Eye Mountain, I knew I had my picture. The plane was a bonus.

Grizzly's Cub

The picture was taken a month ago, when this cub was about four months old. It was late in the day, cold in the air and light rain was falling. This cub and its sibling never ventured far from their mother and she always had her protective eyes on them. When this cub walked up to its mother and the way it looked up toward her, it made my day.
